"High Country Hope" was founded by John Phillips in response to the devastation and need in the Western NC and Eastern TN, High Country following Hurricane Helene. John has a varied background that includes construction, heavy equipment operation, logistics, problem-solving, national, non-profit work, ministry and missions work in 16-Countries and 39-continental States.
The "High Country Hope" work began day-one; September 27th, 2024 in John's driveway in the Boone area, then onto Rippling Water Lane, clearing, rescuing neighbors, then out to Payne Branch Rd, Boone and beyond. Since that catastrophic day, we have worked long hours, 7-days a week, for the past 141-days, in 9-Counties and 2-States. We have continually hosted and utilized volunteer teams from 7-States and counting.
Our work has included everything from search and recovery, chainsaw work, house mucking / cleaning, hauling debris, to current house rebuilds. We have secured and placed multiple tiny homes, campers, generators, fuel, and propane. We have done or overseen and continue the work of rebuilding roads and bridges. We have facilitated continual supply runs to distribution centers across the High Country in 2-States.
We have networked / partnered with multiple, local and national relief organizations to increase our knowledge, productivity and reach. This reach now includes a strategic partnership with Samaritan's Purse. We've also had the privilege of distributing over $100,000 to storm victims in the High Country through donations to our organization and other organizations we are partnered with.
The need is great and our team is committed to helping for the years to come in the work of rebuilding lives in the High Country.
We need help!
